Coachella Fest 2012 wraps up

The 2012 Coachella Music and Arts Festival weekend two has wrapped up a successful — yet scorching — second round.

Triple digits sizzled the thousands of fans in town, which was a big change from the first weekend when people were bundling up.

Organizers made sure everyone had plenty of places to cool off, though. There were misters, air conditioned tents, and complimentary water stations.

The Indio Police Department had a tight hold on any problems. Arrests Saturday, mostly for drug and alcohol intoxication, totaled 19, down from about 60 people arrested last Saturday. Arrests Friday and Saturday totaled 52, down from 99 over two days last week, according to Indio Police. There were fewer arrests the second weekend than last the first.

That’s good news to end Coachella’s round two, and the event as a whole.

David Guetta, Gotye, and Calvin Harris were some names that took the stage this weekend in front of electric crowds. The big anticipation surrounded the last of Sunday’s 49 performers, Snoop Dog and Dr. Dre, and of course the famous hollogram of Tupac.

“You can feel it building from the first day to the third day. The first day was a little more DJ, the second day was a little more rock, and everybody’s waiting for Dre and Tupac,” Coachella fan Zach Archer said.

Despite the sizzling temperatures, Indio police and festival promoter Goldenvoice reported no serious problems. It was unclear how many people were treated for heat exhaustion, but a Riverside County fire spokeswoman said 28 people received medical attention, not including people treated by the contract ambulance company AMR.
