270 pounds of marijuana seized in El Centro
U.S. Border Patrol agents said they intercepted more than 270 pounds of marijuana on Monday that they suspect was being smuggled into the United States using ultra-light aircraft.
Agents were sent to a field in El Centro around 3 p.m. on Monday, where they found packages of sealed narcotics that weighed more than 270 pounds.
A metal basket that agents said was usually used on ultra-light aircrafts to smuggle drugs was found nearby.
The marijuana had a street value of $222,000.
The plane and suspects were not found.
Border Patrol agents applauded the concerned citizen who called to report the discovery and urged more people to take her lead.
