Two arrested in Cathedral City hold up
A 33-year-old man who fired at another man in Cathedral City after he refused to give him money was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and the woman who allegedly drove the suspect from the scene was arrested as an accessory, police said today.
Frederico Ricardo Garcia of Cathedral City was a passenger in a silver Toyota Corolla around 8:10 p.m. Wednesday when he demanded cash from a 32-year- old man, also from Cathedral City, who was talking to friends in the 30800 block of San Gabriel Circle, according to Cathedral City police Sgt. Carl Wolford.
When the victim refused to hand over any money and walked away, Garcia got out of the car and opened fire with a handgun, missing the victim, who ran off, Wolford said. Garcia then got back in the car, which left the scene, he said.
Officers pulled over the car just before midnight in the 30500 block of San Joaquin Drive and arrested Garcia and the driver, 30-year-old Ester Lozano of Desert Hot Springs, Wolford said.
