Illegal to fire guns into air for holiday
Officials in the southeast Coachella Valley reminded the public Wednesday that discharging firearms into the air is dangerous and illegal.
The Southern Coachella Valley Community Services District, which funds increased patrols in the southern end of the Coachella Valley, posted the reminder to coincide with holiday celebrations.
Willfully discharging a firearm “in a grossly negligent manner which could result in injury or death to a person” can result in prison or jail time, according to the state penal code.
Anyone with information regarding the negligent discharge of firearms in the area was asked to call 911, or contact Coachella Valley Crime Stoppers at
(760) 341-7867.
