Rancho Mirage restaurant demolition put on back burner

Rancho Mirage City Council has decided to delay a vote on whether to tear down the burned out remains of Gigi’s Island restaurant cafe on Highway 111.

The decision came Thursday after holding a public hearing.

The building has stood now in it’s current charred state since a fire ravaged it a year ago.

The City of Rancho Mirage designated the building a landmark but many residents view it as an eyesore now and wish it to be torn down.

The postponement will allow the City Attorney time to review documents and public input.
