Small earthquake felt by Coachella Valley residents

As earthquakes go, it wasn’t much to Californians who regularly get shaken up by seismic activity, but a 2.8 magnitude quake was felt by many people around the Coachella Valley early Wednesday morning.

The quake was centered four miles north of Palm Springs just south of Interstate 10 near Indian Canyon Avenue at 12:45 a.m. Wednesday.

People normally don’t feel quakes that measure under magnitude 3.0.

This quake was likely felt because it was so close to populated areas, between Palm Springs and Desert Hot Springs, and at a shallow depth of just .2 miles.

News Channel 3 received more than a dozen calls to its newsroom, viewers who said they felt the ground move.

No injuries or damage was reported, and Seismo 3 didn’t pick it up.
