Super Bowl Sunday celebrations spice up Valley business

More than half of Americans are celebrating the all American game of football this Sunday night.
We found neighbors in Cathedral City with jerseys on and drinks in hand to kick off their day, placing bets on who will win the big game.

“49ers all the way!” said Veronica Rogers, of Palm Springs.

Rene Martinez, of Cathedral City, hosted his annual Super Bowl party for friends and family at his house. It wouldn’t be a Super Bowl party without a little food.

“We have ribs. We have chicken, hot wings, and Texas Chili,” said Martinez.

And of course, pizza.

“Oh yes, pizza! We’ve got everything,” said Rogers.

“It seems like a national holiday where people really plan for it,” said Andy Hathaway.

In fact, it’s the biggest day for pizza sales, which is good news for Hathaway, the owner of Upper Crust Pizza in Cathedral City. The pizzeria bulked up on cheesy supplies to serve more than a couple hundred pizzas on game day.

“Super Bowl Sunday is always a fun day. We have the game on. We have a lot of take out orders,” he said.

According to the National Restaurant Association, 48 million Americans order take out for the game. Sixty-three percent say their “must-have” snack is chicken wings.

“We’re going to do about 3 times the usual amount of wings,” said Hathaway.

Upper Crust and pizzerias alike hope to cash in on some saucy business so football fans can fuel up and cheer on the pros, all from the comfort of their own home.

Martinez says no matter who’s playing, he goes all out for what he calls the “best day of the year!”

“It gets pretty crazy, madness!” said Martinez.

Rogers wishes everyone a “Happy Super Bowl Sunday!”
