Two people and two dogs injured in suspected DUI crash

Police shut down highway 111 and Mirage Road in Rancho Mirage after two vehicles collided head on Monday afternoon. The collision occured at just before 2:45 pm. A truck and an Acura reportedly collided.

The driver of a black Acura was traveling northbound on Hwy 111, when it collided with the center median and traveled north in the southbound lanes. The Acura sideswiped a white Mercedes and then went head-on into a full size red Toyota pick-up truck.

The driver of the Acura, Sandy Davis, 58, of Rancho Mirage was transported to a local hospital for treatment. During the investigation, police determined that Davis was driving while impaired with alcohol and or drugs. She was arrested, but later released due to her injuries.

There were two dogs in the Acura that also sustained injuries and were taken to a local veterinarian hospital.

The driver of the Toyota, Jose Muniz, 44, of Los Angeles was transported to a local hospital for treatment of his injuries. Police later determined that he, too, was impaired with alcohol and / or drugs. He was arrested, but later released due to his injuries.
