Chase that shuts down Coachella I-10 ends in arrest
A Coachella man suspected of leading deputies on acase from Coachella to Interstate 10 while driving impaired was behind barstoday.
Ralph Rivas Jr., 41, was arrested shortly after 10:30 p.m. Thursday on I-10 in Palm Desert. Someone reported an impaired driver about 9:45 p.m. Jennifer Way and Valley Road in Coachella, and deputies tried to stop thevehicle. It sped north on Harrison Street, and deputies followed, according tothe Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.
The chase went through La Quinta and Indio and onto I-10, where thedriver surrendered and was arrested. No one was hurt and no collisions werereported. Eastbound traffic on I-10 was stopped for about 10 minutes whileRivas was arrested, according to the sheriff’s department.
Rivas was booked at the county jail in Indio and was being held in lieuof $100,000 bail, according to jail records.
