Gas company replacing meters

The Southern California Gas Company will be installing nearly 200,000 advanced meters in the Coachella Valley through December. Once installed, the advanced meter will turn on for a fraction of a second every day to read and transmit your usage wirelessly.

All the information the gas company gets will not contain any personal information and will be more accurate.

“The advanced meter is going to provide more accuracy for our bills. So, all of these tools that we are providing for our customers will be available online to help them save some money and save some energy,” said Raul Gordillo spokesman for the Southern California Gas Company.

Customers who opt out of the advanced meters will be put on a deferral list and will incur an extra fee that has yet to be determined by the California Public Utilities Commission.
