Road rage ramming in La Quinta leads to arrest
A 32-year-old Coachella man was behind bars today forallegedly ramming his pickup truck into the back of a car carrying a couple anda 3-year-old girl in La Quinta while under the influence of alcohol.
Witnesses allegedly saw a Chevrolet pickup truck driven by Josue GeorgeMontano “intentionally ramming” the back of a Toyota Camry several times in aparking lot in the 79000 block of Highway 111 about 8 p.m. on Wednesday,sheriff’s Sgt. Randall Wedertz said.
Montano had allegedly followed the car from a business on Corporate Wayand “tailgated the Camry for no known reason,” Wedertz said.
The Camry’s driver’s husband, who was a passenger in the car, calledpolice. The woman, “fearing for their safety,” drove into the parking lot onHighway 111, Wedertz said.
When a sheriff’s deputy arrived, he saw the pickup ramming the car.Montano got out and walked toward the Camry, and more deputies arrived andordered him to get down on the ground. He complied and was arrested, Wedertzsaid.
No one was hurt, the sergeant said.
He said deputies saw beer cans inside the pickup and suspected alcoholwas a factor. He didn’t say if Montano knew the occupants of the Camry or givea possible motive.
Montano was booked at the county jail in Indio on suspicion of assaultwith a deadly weapon, endangering a child, and driving under the influence ofalcohol. He was being held in lieu of $25,000 bail and is expected to bearraigned Friday at the Larson Justice Center in Indio, according to jailrecords.
