Fired San Bernardino County deputy to get $885,000
San Bernardino County has agreed to pay $885,000 to a former sheriff’s deputy who claims he was fired for taking time off to care for his ailing mother.
The Riverside Press-Enterprise says the county learned Tuesday that Travis Bauer had agreed to a lawsuit settlement.
Besides the money, the county will rescind Bauer’s firing and instead retroactively accept his resignation.
Bauer joined the Sheriff’s Department in 2003 and was fired in 2011.
Bauer says he was harassed for taking time off to care for his mother, who has arthritis, bipolar disorder and blackouts from seizures and strokes.
County officials say Bauer was granted all the leave time he requested and was fired for poor work performance and misconduct.
