Palm Springs passengers forced to switch planes before takeoff
Passengers aboard a SkyWest Airlines flight were being switched to another aircraft Tuesday after smoke was reported in the cabin of their plane as it was about to leave Houston Bush Intercontinental Airport for Palm Springs.
SkyWest spokeswoman Marissa Snow says Flight 5201, operating as a United Express flight, was backing from the gate Tuesday morning when smoke was detected from the air conditioning system. The plane returned to the gate and the 62 passengers and four crew members got out normally.
The Houston Fire Department reports no injuries. Airport spokesman David Hebert says fire officials haven’t been able to immediately identify the smoke or odor. Authorities are examining the plane.
St. George, Utah-based SkyWest provides regional jet service for major carriers like United Airlines.
