Rescue mission serves Thanksgiving breakfast, two dinners

More than 50 volunteers showed up before 5 a.m. to help serve a Thanksgiving breakfast to the needy at the Coachella Valley Rescue Mission in Indio.

The mission’s chef created a menu of scrambled eggs with sauteed vegetables, bacon, chocolate chip pancakes, fresh fruit, and muffins.

Wednesday, the mission served more than 650 Thanksgiving meals to the homeless and underfed in the community, and they will do it again on Thursday evening.

Over the two days, CVRM will serve more than 2,500 meals.

“We are very grateful for our generous donors,” says Sandy Carroll, Community Relations Manager for CVRM. “That’s what keeps us afloat. Ninety percent of what we get comes from individuals that come down and drop off a check, or brings us supplies, and go to Costco and buy spices or beans and rice and cereal and those things.”

The meal on Thanksgiving night runs from 4 – 6 p.m.
