Valley hopes for lucky Friday the 13th, Mega Millions $425 million
It may be Friday the 13th, but these players are feeling lucky, just hoping in their fingertips holds the lotto ticket that will grant them at least $425 million. It’s the second largest jackpot in the game’s history and it has folks in the Coachella Valley dreaming of an early retirement.
“It’s big and I want to win it all. It’s going to happen,” said Mega Millions hopeful, Ann Walter in La Quinta.
Some, including Walter, turned out at the La Quinta Liquor and Deli where a local man bought a $34 million winning ticket in 2006. Business was also booming at the ampm in Palm Desert, even employees lined up to take their chances.
“It’s been pretty hectic, but I hope we get the winning ticket, that would be so exciting,” said store manager Alma Rodriguez.
“I hope I wake up a millionaire,” said Gloria Sanchez, of La Quinta.
The odds of winning are significantly lower after a revamp to the game in October. The chances of winning the jackpot went from one in 175 million to one in 259 million.
New numbers will be drawn at 11 p.m. Eastern time.
The Coachella Valley can buy tickets up until 7:45 p.m. Pacific time.
