Man killed in crash on I-10
A man from Hacienda Heights died after crashing his car on Interstate 10 Thursday morning near Calimesa.
Officials with the San Bernadino Sheriff’s Department said the accident happened around 10 a.m. as the 51 year old man approached County Line Road in his 2013 Volkswagen Passat.
The victim was driving westbound in the fast lane when he lost control of his car. The right rear-side of his Passat ended up hitting a Suburban that was traveling slightly behind him one lane over.
Police said the man’s car continued spinning out of control across the westbound lanes of I-10 until it went off the roadway and down the north dirt embankment. The driver’s side of the Passat collided with a tree causing major damage.
The man was transported to Loma Linda Medical Center in San Bernardino County, where he later died. Officials haven’t released the man’s name yet.
Police don’t think alcohol or drugs contributed to the crash, officers with the California Highway Patrol are investigating.
The driver of the Suburban wasn’t injured in the wreck.
