Reopening of Ritz-Carlton Rancho Mirage delayed

Visitors hoping to stay at the Ritz-Carlton in Rancho Mirage will have to wait a few more months for the five-star treatment, according to a letter from city officials.

The developers of the renovated Ritz-Carlton had a deadline to open this weekend.

Representative Phil Wolfgramm said, “While we anticipate obtaining a certificate of occupancy to open the hotel to the public by March 1, we and the Ritz-Carlton may not be ready to accept overnight guests by that date.”

Wolfgramm said they need at least ten more weeks to prepare the hotel.

“We are working diligently with Ritz-Carlton to ensure that the five-star standards of the hotel are fully met when we accept overnight guests to the hotel,” Wolfgramm said.

The developer has requested an extension of the covenant to May, 15, with a warning that it would be entitled to a 30-day cure period if the hotel can’t be opened due to extenuating circumstances.

The Rancho Mirage City Council has scheduled a special meeting on Friday at 1 p.m. to discuss the issues involving the hotel, which has been closed since 2006.
