1 hurt as plane crashes in Southern Calif. suburb

(AP) – Officials say a small plane crashed into a dirt lot in a Southern California suburb. The only person aboard was taken to a hospital, but his condition is unknown.

San Bernardino County Sheriff’s spokeswoman Jodi Miller says the single-engine plane crashed north of U.S. Highway 210 in Rancho Cucamonga on Friday night.

Officials say they had received calls shortly after 6 p.m. from residents saying a plane was flying very low to the ground.

Miller says the single-engine plane crashed into the lot near the base of a foothill. She says the unidentified pilot was taken to a fire station then airlifted to a hospital.

The plane did not hit anything and no one on the ground was injured.

Federal Aviation Administration records show the plane was a Luscombe 8A.
