Southern California freeway crash leaves 3 dead

(AP) – Police say a car going the wrong way on the 210 Freeway crashed into another vehicle in Rancho Cucamonga, killing three people and seriously injuring two others.

California Highway Patrol Capt. Joe Flores said the accident happened at about 2:20 a.m. Sunday when the alleged wrong-way driver in a blue Hyundai collided with a silver Hyundai with four occupants.

Flores says the lone person in the blue Hyundai was killed along with two back-seat passengers in the car he struck.

Flores says the driver of the silver Hyundai and a female passenger in the front seat were seriously injured and were at a local hospital.

He says the occupants in the silver Hyundai were returning from a family reunion.

Authorities are investigating whether alcohol played a role in the crash.
