Rock Out to Knock Out Hunger party benefits Find Food Bank
Find Food Bank wants to “stick a fork in hunger.”
This year’s second annual Rock Out to Knock Out Hunger event calls especially on young people to fight this growing epidemic.
“This event represents to the next generation a way they can make difference in the fight against hunger that is truly affecting all of us in one way or another now,” said Lisa Houston, CEO of Find Food Bank.
Ten dollars got you in the door at the Hacienda Cantina Beach Club & Cantina in Palm Springs, with all proceeds going to the food bank, and each donation goes a long way:
“Ten dollars does go a long way and can feed 70 people,” said Amy Blaisdell, communications director for the city of Palm Springs.
Several valley organizations partnered with Find Food Bank to make the fundraiser possible, including the City of Palm Springs, P.S. Resorts, Goldenvoice, and the Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians.
In addition to the rock cover band “Famous for Nothing” performing, DJs Poolside and Them Jeans kept the party spinning into the later hours.
“It’s just a way to spread awareness to the younger generation that will be here listening to the great music,” Blaisdell said.
“It’s exciting, it’s something new,” said Cody Henderson of Palm Springs.
Each month Find Food Bank serves 90,000 people in the Coachella Valley and last year alone it provided 10 million meals.
But the amount of people who need help feeding themselves or their families continues to grow.
“We have to make sure they have healthy food on a regular basis,” Houston said. “Then we can talk about the education and getting a great job, but first let’s keep them well-fed and healthy.”
