DSUSD warns of flasher near elementary school
Desert Sands Unified School District is warning parents about a man exposing himself to children outside an elementary school in Palm Desert.
It happened on Friday during school hours, and police are still looking for the person responsible.
“It’s disturbing because my brother goes here and neighbors go here and having somebody just expose themselves to kids it disturbing,” said Javier Covarruvias, brother of a student at the school.
On Friday afternoon a man walked up to the playground fence at Washington Charter School and exposed himself to three children.
The Desert Sands Unified School District says the students told the yard supervisor, who sent the students back to their classrooms.
Police were called and interviewed the children involved.
“I feel like I’m in a pretty safe neighborhood, but then something like this happens,” said parent Rosalyn Fleming.
“I thought it was disturbing, very disturbing, but I feel confident that the school administrators will do what they need to to make sure that the kids are safe,” said parent Jontona Estrada.
The school also sent home a letter to parents informing them of exactly what happened.
“I do believe that when I drop my daughter off she is safe here and I do believe that they were on top of it right away Friday when it happened none of the students could leave before they got a note,” said Estrada. “We also received an email at home.”
“I think it is a good school, I think that the parents were informed and that the children were also informed. I know that we were told to have conversations with our child about that so they are safer and it’s a bit of reality about what the real world is like,” said Fleming.
“Even if we are in a good community we still need to keep our guard up regarding incidents like this,” said Estrada.
The school’s security as well as law enforcement have increased their patrols around the school.
So far no arrests have been made and police have not released a description of the suspect.
