17-year-old arrested by Border Patrol for smuggling pot

Border Patrol agents arrested a 17-year-old boy after spotting four people carrying large bundles across the U.S. border from Mexico Wednesday night.

According to the release, agents with the Calexico Station saw the suspects around 9:30 p.m. When they responded to the area the individuals dropped their bundles and attempted to escape back into Mexico.

Agents arrested the 17-year-old just north of the border fence. They found ten large bundles of marijuana nearby. The marijuana weighed 253.41 lbs. and is estimated to be worth more than $152,000, agents said in the release.

The three other individuals weren’t located.

The DEA is handling the investigation. Last year, El Centro Sector Border Patrol agents seized more than 5,700 lbs. of marijuana.
