Feline duo shares survival story, and seven legs between them
As beginnings go, theirs wasn’t a smooth one. But Piper and Thumper are proving they’ve still got a lot of life left (at least seven or eight, if the saying is true).
They were found stranded in a drainage ditch near Bob Hope Drive in Rancho Mirage when Piper was just a newborn. Thumper was just a few months older.
Both were cute as buttons, but Thumper had something special about him that would eventually lead to the name given to him by his foster parent. He was born missing part of one of his rear legs!
“Doesn’t seem to slow him down,” says Mary Ewing, from Loving All Animals. “He’s able to get around very nicely.”
She’s helping get the word out that Thumper, and his pal from childhood, Piper, both need forever homes.
“They were both very scared (when they were found),” says Ewing. But they were eventually rescued by a nice couple who saw them.
Piper, a beautiful Calico, who is now 5 months old, is very shy, “but really comes around once she is comfortable with you.”
Thumper is now about 11 months old. “He is very sweet and loves to cuddle with his foster mom and his friend Piper.”
Ewing is not sure of the relationship between the best pals, but guesses Thumper could either be Piper’s father, or brother from a previous litter.
“They are both very healthy cats and because they bonded we would love for them to be adopted together,” she says. “They seem to have come through a lot with each other’s support.”
Both cats have been fixed, are up to date on their vaccinations, and have both tested negative for FeLV /FIV.
