Palm Desert man has fun while eliminating outdoor water use
Lyn Manor lives in his Palm Desert home much like he has for the past 50 years, but last year he decided it was time to eliminateallof his outdoor water use.
What prompted Lyn to make such a drastic change?
He tells us, “We were gone one time and the sprinklers hung up, and ran them for a whole couple of weeks. Of course that cost money but then the waste of water. And it did it a second time and I said I’m going to get rid of those sprinklers.”
Lyn ripped out the turf in his front yard, replacing plants with desert themed sculptures. Last year he turned his side yard into a beautiful 9 hole putting course.
Lyn says the final conversion is saving him 12-14 dollars a month and a few strokes in his putting game.
“Yes seems like I’m putting a lot better,” Manor says. “We come out almost every night and putt.”
He used different contractors for the process which took about two weeks to complete, and says it’s all worth it to save what water he can.
“That’s quite a resource that’s going to go away one of these days if we don’t get some rain,” Manor tells us.
