Kids and Crime: Town Hall
Tonight a look back and live discussion about our week long series Kids and Crime: Inside the Juvenile Justice System. KESQ Anchors, John White and Karen Devine went in-depth on different aspects of services, resources, programs and law enforcement involved in helping local youth who have gotten into trouble, get back on track.
The series was broken up into four parts. Monday, it was a look at what programs school districts have to offer to help kids resolve problems and stay in school.
Tuesday, the Youth Accountability Team or YAT was featured. A county run program that focuses on intervention and prevention, helping to mentor kids already in minor trouble with the law.
Wednesday, a group for parents was the focus. The Parent Project is taught mostly by county probation officers. They use a handbook to help empower parents and transform teens. Also, a glimpse at the mental health services available in the county that stress family participation for a much better outcome.
Thursday, it was a trip to Juvenile Hall in Indio. A local man who spent time in Juvenile Hall explained what he learned from that experience and how his life has now changed for the better.
Tonight three members of the Law Enforcement community joined us in studio during our six o’clock newscast for a Town Hall Meeting to take viewer’s questions taken from our station’s email and facebook pages.
If you would like to watch the series, you can find all four-parts on our website KESQ.com. There is also a list of resources under the Kids and Crime banner.
