Memorial Day Observance at Desert Memorial Park
The Desert Veterans’ Memorial Association and the Palm Springs Cemetery District held a Memorial Day Service at Desert Memorial Park Cemetery.
Keynote speaker Lt. Colonel Christopher H. Dalton with the U.S. Marine Corps in Twentynine Palms said it was important for all generations to know the meaning of Memorial Day.
“Their memories won’t fade away unless we allow them to,” he said, “and as each generation has to deal with warfare and conflict with a different fashion, the technology and weaponry may change, at the end of the day we still have individuals on the front line, contending with an enemy, that may fight with the same purposes that we do.”
The American Legion joined dignitaries from Coachella Valley cities to honor the fallen.
The Palm Springs High School Spirit of the Sands Band played patriotic music as the crowd watched on and payed tribute to service men and women who sacrificed their lived fighting for the USA.
