PSPD determines bomb threat was ‘swatting’ hoax

The Palm Springs Police Department was called to a bomb threat in the 600 block of Warm Sands Drive Wednesday morning.

After closing down the street and moving two people from the resort out of the area as a precaution, officers determined the bomb threat was just a hoax; commonly referred to as ‘swatting’.

The phony bomb threat was reported around 8:15 a.m.

Lt. Mike Kovaleff said there were live webcams of the area that the caller likely used to provide live information associated with the call.

Warm Sands Drive was closed down for about an hour in the area while police investigated.

If you have information about the incident, you’re asked to call the Palm Springs Police Department at 760-323-8116 or Valley Crime Stoppers at 760-341-7867.
