Young man from LA dies after crashing car in Cabazon
A 19-year-old man from Los Angeles died early Tuesday morning after crashing a BMW into the traffic circle median at Morongo Trail in Cabazon.
He also had four young passengers in the car at the time, fortunately none of them were seriously injured.
According to the Riverside County Coroner’s Office, the man was identified as Sydney Dorsey. CHP officers initially said the victim’s name was Nicholas White.
Dorsey was driving a green BMW 328I eastbound on Seminole Road in front of the Desert Hills Outlet Mall at speeds over 100 MPH.
CHP Officer Darren Meyer said the man failed to slow down for the traffic circle and his car struck the median and overturned around 1:51 a.m. Dorsey wasn’t wearing a seat belt and he was ejected during the crash. Officers said he died at the scene.
Two 19-year-old females, a 19-year-old man and a 21-year-old man, all from Los Angeles, were traveling in the BMW at the time of the crash. Meyer said they were all restrained in the car and they only sustained minor injuries.
None of the passengers needed to go to the hospital.
Meyer said the preliminary investigation revealed the teens were on their way to Morongo Casino from Los Angeles and drugs may have been in use prior to the crash.
In addition, Meyer said the teen driver who was killed was driving with a suspended license.
The California Highway Patrol continues to investigate the crash.
