Odor advisory for Coachella Valley

The South Coast Air Quality Management District has issued an odor advisory through Wednesday due to elevated levels of hydrogen sulfide which smells like rotten eggs.

The gas comes from a naturally occuring process at the Salton Sea.

Elevated levels were detected Tuesday morning in Mecca.

Most individuals won’t be bothered by the odor. Sensitive people may experience symptoms
such as headaches and nausea, or respiratory and nasal irritation.
