Beware danger lurking on hiking trails during El Nio

So far this year, we’ve only had a taste of El Nio, but the worst could be yet to come. And when it hits, the Coachella Valley will be especially vulnerable. to something you might not think about: landslides.

People visiting the desert come here to escape cold and snow elsewhere — but winter is actually our rainy season. Much of our annual precipitation falls between December and March, creating potential problems in our mountains and on our hiking trails.
