President Obama addresses nation about death of Justice Scalia from Rancho Mirage
5:45 p.m. President Obama addressed the nation about the death of Justice Antonin Scalia, from Rancho Mirage Saturday and promised to nominate a successor in due time.
“For almost 30 years, justice Antonin Nino Scalia was a larger than life president on the bench,” said President Obama.
“Obviously today is a time to remember Justice Scalia’s legacy. I plan to fulfill my Constitutional responsibilities to nominate a successor in due time. There will be plenty of time for me to do so and for the Senate to fulfill its responsibility to give that person a fair hearing and a timely vote.”
5:30pm: Motorcade spotted leaving PGA West, and reports say the President will speak about the death of Justice Scalia from Rancho Mirage Shortly.
3:00: From Principal Deputy Press Secretary Eric Schultz: This afternoon the President was informed of the passing of Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia. The President and First Lady extend their deepest condolences to Justice Scalia’s family. We’ll have additional reaction from the President later today.
12:00 p.m. Update: President Obama’s motorcade was spotted on Fred Waring Drive heading East, and later we caught up with the parade of cars parked at PGA West, in La Quinta, near the Stadium Course.
According to the latest pool report, It is the first time President Obama plays the Stadium Course which is regarded as one of the toughest courses in the world. He is being joined by Greg Orme, Bobby Titcomb and Mike Ramos.

President Obama is keeping a low profile while he vacations in the Coachella Valley this weekend, before greeting 10 South East Asian leaders at Sunnylands on Monday.
According press pool reports this morning, the President’s motorcade left the Thunderbird Heights complex in Rancho Mirage just after 8:30 this morning. A dozen or so vehicles made the very short trip across Highway 111 to the Thunderbird Country Club, where the president worked out in the gym. About an hour later the motorcade returned to the gates of Thunderbird Heights.
On Friday, after landing at Palm Springs International Airport, the president jetted off to Rancho Mirage, where he played a round of golf with boyhood friends and frequent golf partners Greg Orme, Mike Ramos and Bobby Titcomb at Porcupine Creek, the home of Larry Ellison.
