LA man accused of elder abuse in attempted robbery
The Palm Springs Police Department arrested a 25-year-old Los Angeles man early Monday morning after they received a call about an attempted robbery in the 200 block of North Calle El Segundo.
Officers said Julio Ramirez is accused of multiple felony charges in the attempted robbery, including elder abuse.
The 83-year-old male victim told police he was walking in the area when the suspect attacked him and demanded money.
The suspect ran from the scene empty-handed, but police quickly caught up with him as he was walking in the 500 block of East Amado Road. Officers said Ramirez began hiding in some bushes and then climbed over a wall as he continued to run from police.
Officers managed to capture and arrest Ramirez as he was trying to climb over another wall in the area, according to the news release.
Ramirez was booked into the Larry D. Smith Correctional Facility in Banning for the following alleged violations:
Felony attempted robbery
Felony Elder Abuse
Felony for violating probation
Misdemeanor for Delay/Obstructing officer in performance of duties
The 83-year-old victim was treated and released for minor injuries at the hospital.
