Firefighters rushing to contain Malibu fire
Firefighters were working to stop a wildfire that was burning on brushy hillsides in Malibu Thursday morning.
Managers downgraded the brush fire from its original estimate of 20 acres saying it had scorched about seven acres along the Malibu ridge line.
The flames were first reported in the area of Mulholland Highway and Bardman Street at 2:55 a.m., said Los Angeles County Fire Department Dispatch Supervisor Rey Dong.
Some residents were evacuated from their homes along with 300-students who were being moved from Camp Bloomfield and taken to Camp Shalom.
The flames were burning through heavy brush, and authorities shut down the Mulholland Highway in both directions nearby, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Aerial water drops were performed bythree water-dropping helicopters.
Firefighters from Los Angeles and Ventura counties were working on the fire.
No injuries were reported.
