Palm Springs woman dies in car crash
The woman who died in a crash on East Palm Canyon Drive Wednesday night has been identified as 50-year-old Caryn Clemente of Palm Springs. The crash happened at about 7:30 p.m. near the Canyon Plaza Shopping Center in Cathedral City.
Lt. Haas with the Cathedral City Police Department said the preliminary investigation determined a Toyota Camry entered the westbound lanes and was rear-ended by a BMW that was also traveling westbound.
Clemente was driving and she sustained fatal injuries in the crash. Lt. Haas said the passenger in her car was taken to Desert Regional Medical Center with serious injuries.
The driver and the front passenger of the BMW were also taken to the hospital with minor injuries, according to the C.C.P.D.
The busy thoroughfare was shut down at Canyon Plaza Drive while police investigated and cleaned up the crash.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation, although police believe excessive speed may have been a factor. The Riverside County District Attorney’s Office is reviewing the results of the investigation.
Anyone who may have witnessed the crash or the driving actions of either car prior to the collision is asked to call the Cathedral City Police Department at 760-770-0343.
