Power restored after wind event in Palm Springs

More than 1,000 Southern California Edison customers were without power after wind contributed to arcing lines and a blown transformer in Palm Springs.

SCE officials say a transformer issue on Alejo Road north of Sunrise Road, affected 1,715 customers at 7:30 p.m.

Power was back up to most customers by 7:51.

As of 8:45, power was out to a total of 5,000 SCE customers in the Southern California area, some because of wind issues.

Police say road crews were alerted to put stop signs at the intersections where stoplights were functioning.

“Be careful,” advised Palm Springs police Lt. Mike Kovaleff.

Both residential and commercial customers were affected in the areas of Sunrise and Amado and Sunrise and Alejo.

Police in Palm Springs also reported several calls of burglar alarms going off because of the wind, but said they’d not received any reports of damage.
