Monday wind affected some flights into Palm Springs
At least ten flights were cancelled into and out of Palm Springs International Airport Monday, and a dozen flights were delayed because of strong winds.
That included flights on Virgin Atlantic, Lufthansa, American Airlines, Air Canada and WestJet.
Airlines were diverting some flights from Palm Springs International because of gusty winds topping 40 miles an hour in Palm Springs, and 43 miles an hour in Thousand Palms.
Flightstatus.com showed seven flights from PSP re-routed, and two delayed at 7:25 p.m.
Airport Director Tom Nolan would not confirm the exact number of flights affected and urged travelers to show up for their scheduled flights. “The wind is causing challenges for some aircraft, but not all,” he said.
Nolan said some airlines were diverting planes to other airports, depending on aircraft size.
Callers also reported trees toppling in the wind from Thousand Palms to Palm Desert.
No roads were shut down because of blowing wind.
