The FBI raid on City Hall in September is still fresh on the minds of many Palm Springs residents. Mayor Moon is calling for talks about hiring a new city manager and a new city attorney. Replacing city manager David Ready and city attorney Doug Holland. So we asked people in Palm Springs what they think of that idea.
“I think that it is better to start with a clean slate, because it’s pretty scary when things go on like that when we don’t know nothing about it and you just let it ride and it happens again,” said Mary Yoxall, a part-time resident of Palm Springs.
“I totally agree with the mayor. Robert Moon is all business and so with what happened we have to clean house,” said Audrey Ruttan of Palm Springs.
“I think it’s a great idea there should be constant change and turnover. It’s important that we have a variety and everyone has checks and balances. It’s unfortunate what happened, but things do happen, so we just have to look forward and move forward,” said Bill De La Campa, the owner Nature’s Health Food & Caf in Palm Springs.
We also asked people if they thought the potential replacements for Ready and Holland should be from the valley or be brought in from somewhere else.
“I don’t think that’s necessary. I just think that they should screen people better but it’s really hard to judge a book by its cover,” said De La Campa.
“I would say maybe they should vet people a little better and watch them closer. And keep an eye on the new construction where there can be a lot of money changing hands to get favors,” said Patricia Rossberg who was selling art at Villagefest.
Moon added none of his proposals were intended to suggest any incompetence or malfeasance by any of the city’s senior staff members.
