California State University strike averted
A strike to disrupt the nation’s largest public university system has been averted.
California State University officials reached a tentative salary agreement with the teacher’s union.
Faculty was planning a five-day strike across 23 campuses starting next Wednesday.
The agreement includes a 10 percent salary increase over the next three years.
“This agreement will not make faculty rich or end all our economic problems but it will alter the course of our relationship with the chancellor and send a huge signal that we can function as a team.” said Jennifer Eagan, union president.
CSU faculty make about 17 percent less than their counterparts nationwide.
That’s taking into account California’s higher cost of living.
