Local company selling anti-break glass
Earlier this month, Riverside County Sheriff’s Deputies watched surveillance video of “smash and grab” burglaries taking place all throughout the Coachella Valley.
After word got out about the burglaries, Liz Storby said she wanted to help businesses prevent something that could happen in a matter of seconds.
“Immediately right away, I thought of security film,” Storby said. “We just kind of want to educate people on the products that we can offer that will protect the valuables in their homes and businesses, and keep everything safe.”
Storby said she and others at Master Window Solutions in Palm Desert have been selling security film for windows for more than a decade.
While they said their typical projects have been cars and homes, they now hope to spread that idea to protect local businesses.
“The windows are the weakest point of your house,” Storby said. “They’re immediately going to go for either an unlocked door, or a window. So, this film is going to prevent them from actually breaking in through that glass.”
Storby said the way the film works is it’s made with more than 200 layers of polyurethane material, and is laid inside of a window, which they say could help prevent “smash and grab” break-ins.
“I definitely think it could help, especially if you have a lot of glass in your storefronts,” local business manager Alex Robless said.
“All you’re going to have to worry about with film on your window is replacing that broken glass, not replacing your valuables inside your business or your home,” Storby said.
Storby said the film also protects glass against UV rays, and helps prevent glass from shattering during earthquakes.
