Slightly more arrested during weekend 2 of Coachella Festival
Slightly more people were arrested during the second weekend of the Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival than the first weekend.
Indio police said they arrested 142 people over the final weekend, as opposed to 128 during the opening weekend, bringing the total to 270. Police said they especially stepped up their enforcement to try and combat underage drinking this year.
142 Arrested:
17 arrests were made for public intoxication
86 arrests were related to illegal possession of a controlled substance (81 of those were for misdemeanor possession of a controlled substance and five were for felony possession of a controlled substance for sales)
35 arrests were made for alcohol related violations
2 arrests were made for robbery
1 arrest was made for resisting/obstructing a peace officer
1 arrest was made for a vehicle code violation
Officers said arrests for misdemeanor possession of a controlled substance increased slightly for Coachella Weekend 2, while arrests for alcohol related violations decreased.
22 arrests were made for Business and Professions Code section 22661(a)-Minor in Possession of Fake ID to Purchase Alcohol, also a decrease from Coachella Weekend 1. 13 minors were also arrested for possession of alcohol.
