Tristone Cinemas to take over Cinemas Palme D’Or
Cinemas Palme D’Or at the Westfield Mall will be closed for business on June 30, according to a letter from Flagship Theatres of Palm Desert, LLC, which runs the movie theater.
KESQ and CBS Local 2 confirmed Tuesday afternoon that there won’t be a lot of downtime upon its closure, because another theater will be filling the void.
Officials with Westfield Palm Desert said Tristone Cinemas will be transitioning into the theater on July 1. Tristone Cinemas has locations in Riverside, Brea, and Temecula, to name a few.
“We really think a lot of this theater. We are only part time residents here, but we go to this place to see a lot of movies you not going to always find,” said David Catlin, and independent movie fan.
The letter from Flagship Theatres of Palm Desert states the company is closing after 13 years at the popular location.
Theater officials said they could no longer stay solvent because of Cinemark’s constant pressure on studios and distributors to shut their theater out of major titles. Despite the closure, the group says that it’s longstanding litigation against Cinemark will continue.
Bryan Cranston is a co-owner of Cinemas Palme D’Or.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, the 10-screen art house theater will close this summer.
KESQ and CBS Local 2 has reached out to longtime theater executive Brian Tabor and to Cinemark. We’re hoping to have further comment about the closure Tuesday evening.
