A second night of overnight freeway closures was slowing traffic along Interstate 10 in Indio early Wednesday morning.
Westbound freeway traffic was being detoured off of Interstate 10 at the Jefferson exit, then using Varner Road until reentering the freeway at Washington Street.
Eastbound freeway traffic was not affected by the closure after being detoured off the freeway the night before.
Crews are working to place steel girders for a second new bridge now under construction at the Jefferson Street Interchange.
Westbound traffic was expected to be detoured until the project wrapped up for the day by 6:00 a.m. Wednesday.
No major delays were being reported as of 4:00 a.m., but traffic typically picks up at 5:00 a.m., so motorists were urged to use caution.
