Suspected drunken driver arrested in Indio after police chase

A pursuit Monday morning has come to an end in the streets of Indio, blocking off an intersection. Deputies said a suspected drunken driver was taken into custody.

The pursuit through the Coachella Valley happened just before 8 a.m.

Deputies attempted a traffic stop on the potential DUI suspect near North Indian Canyon Drive and 18th Avenue, in the unincorporated area of North Palm Springs, said Deputy Armando Munoz of the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.

The driver sped off onto eastbound Interstate 10, leading deputies on a pursuit that proceeded into Indio, he said. The suspect eventually stopped at a red light at the intersection of
Avenue 46 and Madison Street, where deputies, with the assistance of California Highway Patrol officers, took the man into custody on suspicion of DUI, Munoz said. His name was not immediately released.

No one was injured during the pursuit, according to the deputy.
