Bernie Sanders speaks about Cathedral City rally
With less than two weeks to go before the California primary, Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders has been making his way all throughout the Southland.
“It’s been great,” Sanders said. “We’re heading up and down the state. Our goal is to do literally dozens of rallies. Some will be very, very large. Some will be smaller. But at the end of the day, we’ll speak to well over 200,000 people.”
After making stops along the coast and throughout the Inland Empire, Sanders decided to make a stop in the Coachella Valley Wednesday by holding a rally in Cathedral City at Big League Dreams.
“It’s a great city,” Sanders said. “It’s a city which has, I think, a lot of potential support for us. The way you do well in politics is you have to talk to people directly. They have to see you. They have to touch you.”
While Sanders made a surprise visit to the valley last week for pleasure, he said Wednesday was all business.
“We do that all the time. We go where politicians don’t go,” Sanders said. “I know everybody goes to L.A., San Francisco and San Diego, and that’s great. We do that. But, we’re going to go to communities where other politicians don’t go.”
As Sanders and his team hope to gain more support ahead of the state primary.
“We hope to build a small volunteer organization,” Sanders said. “We hope that the people here will be talking to their families and friends and co-workers to make sure that in California, on June 7th, we have the largest voter turnout in the history of this state for a Democratic primary.”
Sanders continued his tour of Southern California Wednesday hosting a rally in Lancaster.
He’s also expected to speak Thursday at a rally in Ventura.
