Reopening date set for revamped Palm Springs Dog Park
The Palm Springs Dog Park will reopen in November following major renovations that began just over a month ago, the city announced today.
City Manager David Ready said the park has already been outfitted with a new irrigation system, landscaping, a new concrete walkway and an underground electrical system for new LED decorative lighting fixtures.
Light poles are scheduled next for installation, as well as new turf and soil. The city is also expecting to receive delivery of a slate of new furnishings for the park, including a new dog bone bench, dog wash fountain and trash receptacles.
The Palm Springs City Council gave the go-ahead in March for the improvement project, following ongoing criticisms by local residents for the park’s largely barren dirt appearance.
City parks officials say the park’s “state-of-the-art makeover” will include new sod, walkways, benches, drinking fountains and dog showers.
“This will be a transformational makeover for a much-loved dog park which has been well used over the years and is in need of updating,” said Parks and Recreation Director Vicki Oltean. “We look forward to unveiling the newly renovated space once it’s completed and we thank the public for their patience while work is underway.”
Dog owners looking for a place to take their pets in the meantime can utilize a temporary dog park at Demuth Park, on the corner of Vella Road and Mesquite Avenue, across from the Palm Springs Animal Shelter.
Details on a November grand reopening ceremony are expected in the near future, according to Ready.
