Christopher Kennedy debuts Palm Springs Pad
Modernism week is taking over Palm Springs this weekend. The fall preview weekend is the appetizer to the ten-day event in the spring.
Local designer Christopher Kennedy is making magic happen at his new pad in Palm Springs, redesigning his place in just 10 days.
The prominent tastemaker scaled things down for the fall preview.
“People asked why I left the big house in the golf course and moved here and frankly I just wanted to simplify. You know it’s great to have that but it’s also nice to conserve,” Kennedy said.
Kennedy said this transformation differs from what he does in the spring.
“Our show houses that we’re really known for are high end and beautiful but they’re very expensive frankly and most people can get inspired but not take those things home,” Kennedy said.
But this weekend’s redesign is more affordable.
“Thanks to ATG stores, our partner, our entire look at the pad is going to be shopable online. And it’s really well priced. You can go into the house, like something and go online and buy it and I’m really thrilled about that because it’s more accessible for more people,” Kennedy said.
Another difference this weekend is the pad’s vibe.
“Inspired by Palm Springs, but it’s also a bit more urban because we are in downtown. It isn’t on the golf course and I’m doing a lot of work out of town right now in New York and San Francisco and I think that’s kind of inspiring me so it’s kind of an urban oasis in Palm Springs,” Kennedy said.
Kennedy said while he loves the entire remodel there’s a few things that really stand out.
“I really love the new chandelier from ATG stores George Kovacs designed. It looks like bent travertine and I actually love our new shower fixtures. We showed how you can take really simple like builder standard plumbing fixtures and swap it out and in like two hours have a more spa like experience with rain heads and body sprays so that’s a great update that’s really simple to do at home,” Kennedy said.
The affordable remodel is a reminder to everyone just a few simple updates can make a world of difference.
