Three local teachers named Riverside County “Teacher of the Year”

Three local teachers selected as 2018 Riverside County “Teacher of the Year”

This morning Riverside County Superintendent of School, Dr. Judy White surprised each one in class.

Michelle Beyronneau or “Mrs. B”, a math teacher at Desert Hot Springs High School who mixes in quotes from Star Wars and Harry Potter in class, was awarded.

Dr. Brian McDaniel at Painted Hills Middle School was also awarded. Dr. McDaniel is a music teacher for grades 6th through 8th who uses unorthodox methods like kung fu, yoga, and dance to help teach breathing capacity.

Edwin Detoya from Bobby Duke Middle School who teaches math, robotics, and adult GED was the third teacher awarded. He helped secure grants that funded solar & wind power, plus drone technology.

Each year, only four are identified as county teachers of the year, three of the four this year are locals. They will be representing Riverside County at the California State Teacher of the Year competition later this fall.
