Banning brush fire spreads to nearby motels

More than three dozen firefighters were working Sunday evening to contain a brush fire that broke out in Banning, and spread to a nearby motels.

CAL FIRE/Riverside County crews responded to the fire just after 3 p.m. Sunday, originally reported on the 1600 block of Ramsey Street.

It was declared contained at 7:30 p.m.

Fire crews and witnesses reported the fire burned half an acre and extended into the nearby Travelodge and Quality Inn.

The fire’s location was later updated by firefighters to the 1700 block of Wilson Street.

Staff at the Quality Inn said multiple rooms were burned, while Travelodge staff said one room had been burned. Guests were evacuated from both motels.

No injuries were reported.
