Palm Springs Air Museum fundraising to help honor Tuskegee Airmen

The Palm Springs Air Museum has started an online fundraising campaign to help honor the Tuskegee Airmen, a famed group of all-black military pilots that fought during World War II.

The museum is looking to raise $15,000 to send two Tuskegee airmen and a P-51 Mustang named “Bunny” to the National Championship Air Races in Reno, Nevada. The air race is attended by around 150,000 people according to museum staff.

The plane would open the air show at the event as well as race.

Captain Rusty Burns and Lt. Col. Bob Friend are the airmen being honored with this visit.

Anyone who donates $25 or above will receive gifts for their financial donation ranging from dog tags to a one year family membership to the museum depending on the amount.

Fred Bell, vice chairman of the Palm Springs Air Museum, said there’s not much time left to honor the the pilots.
