Local first responders remember fallen comrades in 9/11 ceremony

Local first responders paid tribute to fallen comrades in an early morning ceremony Monday marking the 16th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks.

The ceremony was hosted by the Palm Springs Fire Department and was attended by members of the Cathedral City Fire Department, Palm Springs Police Department, and local leaders such as Palm Springs Mayor Robert Moon and Councilman Geoff Kors.

The ceremony included a moment of silence at 5:46 a.m., the time the first plane hit the north tower of the World Trade Center, and a video montage honoring all 343 firefighters that lost their lives when the World Trade Center collapsed.

A piece of the Twin Towers stands prominently in front of Station 442 along with a silhouette of firefighters carrying away one of their fallen comrades.

The flag at the memorial was lowered to half staff for the day.

This is 2nd year the Palm Springs Fire Department has done this early ceremony.
